LAUREN POPPI

LAUREN POPPI

Lauren Poppie, 30, grew up in Hopkins Minnesota. My childhood revolved around being outdoors and spending time at the water and in the woods. I attended the University of Wisconsin Stout which led me to Aspen in 2018. I have found true inspiration in being surrounded by the beautiful landscapes and people that make our home so special.

I happened upon “relief printmaking” by accident. A happy accident, at that. Finishing up my senior year in school left me with a sense that I had always wished I pursued studio art as a degree. I took an introduction to woodcut relief print course in college as a credit requirement. Although I had always had a passion for art, I was going to college for “hotel restaurant and tourism management.” I immediately connected with the medium and found that I was able to convey my perception of different landscapes in a way that I never could with any other medium. This lead to me staying an additional year and graduating with a degree in studio art with an emphasis in relief printmaking. I have continued my art journey after moving to Colorado. I have done small carvings and prints, large custom carvings for private homes and restaurants such as PARC aspen, and even completed a custom ski line with Wagner Sis. Always exploring new way to push the limits of this medium by introducing different mixed medias, and expanding in size and detail.

Things that make you feel Giant/ Small

My artwork explores the intricacies and details of nature.

When taking in the “big view” or “little view” you’ll know that these spaces can trigger some strong feelings within us, and about us too. My inspiration is a direct reflection of the force of nature. A common experience that can evoke a sense of awe, wonder, and even a strong feeling of connection to something larger than oneself.

The true understanding of just how the textures and details kind of make you feel...Giant/ Small
