Chris Erickson Melting Gondola

Melting Gondola

$25,000.00

Chris Erickson

2021

12’x12’x7’

decommissioned gondola car, skis, snowboard, sculpted foam

Additional Information

The Melting Gondola sculpture was displayed in 2021 at the top of Aspen Mountain in Aspen Colorado and once again at the World Cup Ski competition in 2023.

The Melting Gondola was originally proposed and displayed for Aspen Ski Company in Aspen, Colorado. The conceptual driver is the climate crisis which has reached and surpassed milestones and metrics considered to be a threat to life on this planet. Without action, we are certain to experience an advancement of climate related disasters that will adversely impact our world. Yet, a global concentrated effort to unite and rally people in defense of this crisis has taken shape and is gaining momentum. There is hope in presenting messaging through art. Art has the ability to interact with the public, and with policymakers through visual concepts that provide a powerful statement and motivate people to take action.
